As part of Bracknell’s town regeneration the Youth Forum have created a survey for young people regarding a youth café. A group of young people from the Youth Forum visited “Barcode” in Weston-Super-Mare, run by volunteers including youth workers and young people, with plenty of things to do including:
The bar also runs events every week including young bands playing live music, discos and charity events.
Members of the Youth Forum also met with Helen Barnett, the Marketing Manager for the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership and Chris Mansfield, the town centre co-ordinator to discuss what they had seen in Weston-Super-Mare, and see what could be done to start get a similar place in the Bracknell area.
The aim is to create a similar place in the new town build for young people in the borough to go to. To achieve this, young people are being asked what they would like to see in the new town centre, what you want and how it will benefit you. To do this a small questionnaire has been created for young people to fill in.
The idea seems to be very popular as we are about to see the opening of two small youth café’s in Forest Park and Crown Wood. This is definitely the way forward for young people because it’s what they want.
Xpresionz and the Forum are determined to see some sort of provision for all of the young people in the borough in the new £750 million town. Fill out the questionnaire to give us your view on a youth café or bar in the Bracknell area and use the feedback link to give us a more detailed view to help us achieve this.
If you want to see what Barcode is like, check out the photos that have been added to the site.
