Town Centre Regeneration

The regeneration of the Charles Square area will start in June to transform the current square into a new shopping street.

The work, which is part of the overall £240m Bracknell town centre regeneration, will see the shop fronts pulled forward so the existing square becomes a street; this street will house a huge two-storey Primark, as well as a host of new shops.

Part of this work will also include improvements to the Stanley Walk area, including the replacement of low level canopies with a translucent roof, new facades and a new street scene.

Mace, the main contractor for the regeneration, will hoard off the Charles Square area from June 1. There will still be access through Charles Square between High Street and Stanley Walk/ the front of Princess Square.

Pedestrian access to Charles Square car park will be via High Street and the ramp by Pizza Go Go and then on to The Ring as the escalators will also be hoarded off as part of this work.

The water clock, currently located in Charles Square, cannot be retained or relocated due to its very deep structure.

However, as part of the regeneration there is money available for new artwork, so the new town centre embraces the legacy of the old town, but will provide fresh and modern pieces too.

The new Charles Square area and modernised Stanley Walk are due to open in Spring 2017 alongside the new shops, restaurants, cinema and car park in the northern retail area.
